Life can be draining sometimes, and no matter what you do to get back to feeling like your normal self, you just can’t seem to do it. Other times, you catch yourself wondering how you could better yourself or your life. It is times like these that you should reflect on the health of your spiritual self.
Your spiritual self is that part of you that helps you feel out when something is good or bad. It is this characteristic that allows it to let you know when it’s not doing so well. Ignoring your spiritual self may result in feelings such as lethargy, a decrease in your self-esteem or a bitterness towards life. Thankfully, that can all easily be fixed. Here are 8 ways you may nurture your spiritual self:
1. Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness is all about being present in every moment, so you don’t take anything for granted. Spend the next day focusing on how you feel in each moment and savor every bite of food. Sometimes focusing on the little things in life help your spirit feel better. By valuing everything you have, you’ll have a greater appreciation for your life and a happier, more content spirit.
2. Get Better Sleep
The missing link between you and your healthier spiritual self might be better sleep. Make the effort to enforce some easy sleep tricks each night for a week and compare with how you felt before made any changes. If you don’t get enough sleep, you’ll be more inclined to criticize yourself and others, leading to a sour spirit. Getting more quality sleep could help solve many problems in just one try.
3. Try Meditation
Meditation is being focused on yourself and nothing else for a short period of time, which can relieve stress from your spiritual life. Once a day, either at the beginning or the end, sit down somewhere that’s quiet and focus on steadying your breathing. You’ll begin to hear nothing but your heartbeat and feel more centered.
4. Focus on Positive Thoughts
You may be new to thinking about your spirit and how it’s doing. It’s easy to learn how to find your spiritual self, and thinking positively is the easiest way to start. Positive thoughts will decrease your stress and create a more peaceful environment for spirit to dwell, leading to happier days and interactions with other people.
5. Keep in Touch with Loved Ones
Loneliness is something that everyone can feel deeply, and it’s felt deeply because it’s your spirit that’s affected. Spirits are sensitive to negative moods, thoughts and actions, which is why doing something opposite like keeping in touch with loved ones can help so much. Feeling appreciated and valued will boost your spirit and keep you going on a better path.
6. Start A Journal
You may have heard of people journaling to get their thoughts out on paper, but it’s a good exercise for your spirit as well. Journaling has been proven to reduce negative thoughts and improve memory functions. You’ll help your mind and your soul by venting your thoughts and relieving a little stress through pen and paper.
7. Make A Dream Board
There’s no way to overemphasize just how much damage negativity can do to your spiritual life. Discouragement is one of the more common ways people can fall into a mind trap that keeps their spirit struggling for days, weeks and even years on end. To fight this, make a dream board and put it up somewhere that you’ll see it daily. Encourage yourself to keep going and fight for your dreams.
8. Pass Goodness On
You may find that the only way to truly fight the darkness looming over your spirit is to create goodness in the world. Simple acts of kindness like holding doors open for the people you see or leaving a slightly bigger tip than you normally would can help get the ball rolling. People pass on kindness with more kindness, which can bring your spirit to life.
The main goal you should have for yourself when trying to nurture your spiritual life is to do something good for yourself. Skip the usual efforts—binge eating desserts or procrastinating—and instead, implement more spirit-focused activities. Doing something nice for someone or journaling about what’s on your mind can free your spirit of any negative thoughts and emotions that it’s carrying as baggage. Once you have your spiritual self-feeling better, you’ll start to see your whole life improve.
