I give you the mixed berry smoothie bowl! Oh, the wonderful world of smoothies. There are seriously so many kinds that you could honestly have a different variation every day… it just takes some creativity.
This blend is a little bit darker because of the blackberries and frozen spinach (I buy fresh spinach and freeze it rather than using pre-frozen). I always add at least a handful of spinach to my smoothies because it is SUPER nutrient dense, low in calories, aids digestion and can be eaten at such high volume without breaking a sweat. I am borderline anemic so the high iron content is great for me. It's truly one of the best super foods.
I will also sometimes add a scoop of protein powder which helps thicken the smoothie up a little but. I usually use one that is banana flavored as I have found those to be the most natural tasting. No protein in this time, though.
The measurements for the following recipe are based on using a blender. If you are using a magic bullet or other single serving processor, you'll need to cut the measurements in half.
Careful, the steps are super complicated.
1 1/2 cups frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries)
1 medium banana
1 1/2 – 2 cups unsweetened original almond milk (vanilla flavored is also good)
1 cup frozen spinach
1 tbsp. peanut butter (optional)
Whole flax seeds
Fruit topping of choice
- Blend frozen fruits, frozen spinach, banana, peanut butter (if using) and almond milk in blender until smooth.
- Pour smoothie in bowl and top with coconut shavings, flax seeds and fruit of choice.
